Create a Samurai Face Mask

(40 minutes)

Create your own Samurai mask.  Just print these pages, cut, color, tape, string, and wear it!

Supplies:
  • Markers, crayons, etc...
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Tape
  • Hole punch
  • String or yarn

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

STEPS:

1.  If you are a Mac user:  Pull down the 'File' menu at the top of your screen, go to 'Page Setup', and reduce the page size to 82%.

 
2.  Now you’re ready to do your project. Take the papers you just printed out, gather the materials you need, and find a good place to play!
3.  Fold the Face Mask sheet in half on the dotted line.
4.  With the sheet folded, cut out the mask on the thick black lines.
5.  With the sheet still folded, cut out the mouth and chin holes on the thick black lines.
6.  Be careful with this next step – with the sheet folded, cut along the thick black line for the nose. Don’t cut it all the way out or you’ll have a hole for a nose.
7.  Cut out the mustache on the thick black lines. 
8.  Cut into the mustache.
9.  Bend the paper fringe to make the mustache look fuzzy.
10.  On the mustache, find the tab with the X. Fold it along the dotted line. Then glue the X to the X in the middle of the face mask.
11.  Cut the 5 slits in the chin on the thick black lines.
12.  At each slit, move the edges of the paper over to cover the dotted area and glue them down. This will make the chin turn under.
13.  At the side folds, fold on the dotted lines and tape down.
14.  Punch hole through double thick paper at the circled X’s.
15.  Take 2 pieces of 8" string and tie them through the holes.

 

16.  Now your mask is ready to wear. If you get hot, your sweat can run out the hole in your chin just like it did for the samurai!
