Chair from the Past Several hundred years ago, archeologists excavated the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and people became fascinated with the lives of the ancient Greeks and Romans.  Symbols from this earlier time, such as urns, laurel wreaths, and acanthus leaves, often decorated furniture.
