Brave Maya Ballplayer The Maya played with a solid-rubber ball weighing up to eight pounds, so players wore heavy pads to avoid injury from the flying ball.  Horseshoe shaped yokes of leather or wicker circled their waists, and thick cloth pads protected their arms and thighs.
